Abdel Bari Atwan, a Palestinian journalist of international reputation was born in Gaza, and studied in Egypt, before moving to London.

 

Since 1989 he has been the Editor-In-Chief of the major independent pan-Arab newspaper, Al Quds Al-Arabi. A newspaper that represents the democratic expressions of Arabic people all over the world. 
  

He interviewed Osama Bin Laden and wrote the book ‘Secret History of al-Qa’ida’ (2006).  He argues, ‘in order to combat terrorism we must understand those who advocate it’.

 

In 2008 Abdel Bari published his memoir ‘A country of words’.

 

His controversial opinions are frequently sought by print and broadcast journalists around the world. He is well known for his lively and passionate debating style.
 
Margot Dijkgraaf will introduce and interview Mr Atwan. She is a well-known literary critic since 1988 at the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad.

Abdel Bari Atwan, een Palestijnse journalist met internationale bekendheid, is geboren in Gaza, studeerde in Egypte en verhuisde daarna naar Londen.

Hij is sinds 1989 de hoofd editor van de grote, onafhankelijke  Arabische krant, Al Quds Al-Arabi.

Abdel Bari interviewde Osama Bin Laden en schreef het boek ‘Secret History og al-Qa-ida’ (2006). Hij betoogt, ‘om terrorisme te bestrijden moeten we degenen begrijpen die het uitoefenen’.

In 2008 publiceerde Abdel Bari zijn memoires ‘A country of words’.

Zijn controversiële standpunten worden regelmatig door journalisten over de hele wereld gebezigd. Hij is tevens grote naamsbekendheid verworven met zijn gepassioneerde manier van debatteren.
